Brief:
Practical assignment (observation and analysis)
Design your own printing checklist form.
Research, written and practical assignment (problem solving)
- Use the magazine-style brochure that you designed in Module 5. Add a spot varnish to the cover and change the design to use a spot colour (you are welcome to make layout changes if you want to).
- Make use of your checklist that you designed and prepare the file for print.
- Decide what paper weight and type you will use.
- Decide what type of binding you will use, for example, saddle stitch, perfect bind, etc. Do some research about the options available and elaborate on why you chose this method.
- Upload the print-ready PDF to your blog and post screenshots of your packaged files and instructions.
Make sure to include the instructions (like spot varnish, paper choice and binding) in the file.
I used a spot color of 100% magenta, below image of the spot UV swatch and layering, and the other colors used in the spread.
I decided on one of the most commonly used paperweights for brochures, 80 lb. text, is most common and not too heavy or expensive
For type, I went with Gloss Coated Paper, Its shine reflects higher quality and works well with publishings that are picture heavy.
Binding will be Saddle stitch, as it is a durable and cost-effective binding method.
