L.T 2.2 – Scamper technique – whisk

by | Jan 30, 2022 | 1 Semester, Learning Tasks

Brief:

You are given a whisk as an object. Now apply each one of the SCAMPER techniques to it to develop a new product. Give a brief explanation of what the new product is and how it can be marketed.

This is our second assignment that involves actively using the SCAMPER method, and I found it was easier this time around, though I still struggle with some bits of the concept.
Attached is my written/drawn notes but I will list my findings as well so they are clear and not subject to misunderstandings due to my penmanship 😛

Substite something:
– I substitute the commonly used metal/aluminium for Bamboo, as it is more environmental. Both or either handle and bristle.

Combine with something else:
– Combine the whisk with other kitchen utensils such as spatula, measuring spoon, ladle etc.
– Combine it with a baking set
– Combine it with a rod and hanger

Adapt:
-Make it electric
-Push to spin
-Detachable handle

Modify:
– Change handle so it clicks to pan, and stirs on its own.
– Have the handle change with a twist, turning the bristles to create new shapes – thereby a new utensil.
– Modify handle to look like a toy.

Put to other use:

– If using the twist idea, it can be used as tongs and spatula
– If using replaceable handle, it can change in to whatever kitchen utensil I choose to combine it with.
– If using Bamboo version, it can be used as a massager, duster.
– If going with doll version, it can be used as a toy, in a puppet show, decoration.

Eliminate:
– Remove all the extra parts
– Remove handle and make it bamboo all the way, end glued together for grip.

Rearrange/Reverse:
– Make it retractable
– Turn it upside down for extra parts.
– Make it foldable (to save space)

After applying the SCAMPER method, I end up with three viable ideas:

Whisk for the lazy
Environmental Whisk
3-in-1 Whisk

I made a pros and cons list on the three, and ended up with the 3 -in-1 idea, as it came out ahead of the other two.
Below is my end result.

The final product is a 3-in-1 whisk that you can easily hang close to where it will be used. With simple turns of the handle you can change it from a normal whisk, to a spatula or tongs.

Marketing this item should focus on the fact that you get 3 different utensils for the price, and ease of one.
In this day of age, using social media to its fullest potential is key. Creating a strong brand awareness using a great creative team and having influencers use this product on tic toc, Instagram or snap. Target audience would typically be women and men 25-55, but as a mother of teens myself, I know the influence my kids have on my buys. So getting influencers using and promoting this product will get this item in every household faster then any add could.
If I have a lot of resources for marketing this, I would also place adds on Facebook, google and Instagram. Using google analytics to retarget visitors.
