L.t 3.3 – designing a film festival poster

by | Feb 5, 2022 | 1 Semester, Learning Tasks

Brief:

This task involves working with typography in expressive layout.

  • Design a poster for a film festival. You can decide on the name and remember to include the date and the venue. Focus on strong and expressive typography. You are allowed to add visuals. Use an A3 format at 297 x 420mm.
  • Expand your design to include a pamphlet that outlines dates and further details of the festival. Remember this design must be consistent with your poster design. The pamphlet can be any size or format. Have a look online for inspiration.

For this task, I quickly decided that I wanted my fictional film festival to be something I myself would go see, using my age group as the target audience. I then went to adobe stock to find inspiration and maybe some pictures to use. I also looked at older students’ posters and horror festivals in general on Google. After finding the movies and pictures I wanted to use, I researched how to create a poster in general and got started on my own. I decided to use perspective on the writing and make it integrated into the picture to create the effect of it actually being written on the wall and floor. Since we were also making a flyer, I did not feel like the readability on the poster was an issue, as all the info is clear on the flyer.
